Nato forces will leave soon, we cannot
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Friday said US has also started to classify Taliban into good and bad categories which is a positive development. This may bring peace, stability, and economic prosperity in the region.
American policy makers have subscribed to the idea after sticking to their own philosophy for almost a decade that inflicted great damage to their reputation, economy, and Federal Reserve note.
Public opinion in US has turned against the unwinnable war in Afghanistan. Masses suffering from financial crunch want an immediate troop withdrawal to save life of fellow Americans and billions of dollars wasted there.
Democrats have realized the mood and now it is impossible for them to win next election without a withdrawal.
“Now, White House has started preparations to leave Afghanistan after striking a deal with good Taliban,” said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
In the first phase, government has started educating masses about difference between al-Qaeda and Taliban. In second round, they will inform masses about good and bad Taliban. Meaningful negotiations will follow and US will leave region with honour after an agreed formula.
US cannot leave Afghanistan like the one it did in past. Repetition of Boat People drama, staged in Vietnam, will hit reputation of US. They know that an immediate withdrawal will be a disaster and Afghan President Hamid Karzai may meet the fate of former president Dr. Najeeb.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that listening to others is alien to American mentality. Otherwise, they would have resolved this issue with the help of Pakistani security establishment during the Bush era.
It would have saved many innocent lives and much needed precious resources, he added. Now, it seems that important stakeholders are on the same side.
Mughal said that our policy makers should understand that US and NATO troops will leave the region soon but we cannot. We will have to live here and it is up to our leaders to choose between friendly or hostile neighbours.
