Govt continue to compromise economy for politics
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday said Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s renewed focus on energy offered nothing to the masses.
The first meeting that Raja Pervaiz Ashraf chaired after assuming the charge as prime minister was to resolve energy crisis proved another useless effort, it said.
Now, the load shedding has increased in the harrowing summer making lives of 180 million full of miseries, affecting industrial and agricultural production, leading to deaths and making mobs more violent, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
Announcement regarding provision of extra fuel to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) was taken positively despite the fact that the problem in not scarcity of fuel but non-payment of dues, he said.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that the non-serious attitude of the government is evident from the fact that it has not taken any action for resolution of the problem after four sovereign default notices by IPPs.
Many believe that PM has less that required level of understanding of economic matters as was the case with his predecessor which will compound problems; he said adding that PM’s stance on NRO has added to the prevailing uncertainty.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that it is generally believed that the political change has not changed the economic policies which have left business community scared and hopeless.
The new PM is compromising important economic matters for the sake of political survival which is pushing situation from bad to worst.
PM’s reputation as federal minister, his role in rental power, commitment, ability to take decisions and inclination to please everyone will not help him or country in anyway, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal.
Popularity of the politicians who have made a mess of the power sector and refuse to initiate reforms is at the lowest ebb.
PEW doubts that in the current situation the political leadership will be able to resolve the current unstable situation or put bureaucracy to work in the national interest.
PM’s other claims to restore peace, cooperative environment among political parties and cordial relations with key institutions met the same fate therefore government should immediately announce election schedule to infuse hope in the prevailing discouraging environment, Dr. Mughal demanded.

پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا ہے کہ وزیر اعظم راجہ پرویز اشرف نے چارج سنبھالتے ہی توانائی کا بحران حل کرنے کا دعویٰ کیا تھا جو غلط ثابت ہوا کیونکہ ملک میں لوڈ شیڈنگ، مایوسی، اموات اور پر تشددہنگاموں میں اضافہ ہو گیا ہے جو عوام کے ان پر عدم اعتماد کی دلیل ہے۔ صنعتی و زرعی پیداوار بری طرح متاثر ہو رہی ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ آئی پی پیز کو اضافی ایندھن کی فراہمی بھی دھوکا ثابت ہوا کیونکہ انکا مسئلہ ایندھن نہیں بلکہ بقایاجات ہیں۔انکے مسائل کے حل میں حکومت کا غیر سنجیدہ رویہ رکاوٹ ہے۔سیاست کے لئے اقتصادی مفادات کی قربانی کا سلسلہ زور پکڑ گیا ہے اور این آر او پر انکے موقف نے سیاسی و معاشی عدم استحکام کو ہوا دی ہے جس سے پتہ چلتا ہے کہ اقتصادی معاملات میں وزیر اعظم کی دلچسپی کا یوسف رضا گیلانی سے زیادہ نہیں۔ ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ سیاسی تبدیلی کے بعد جو لوگ معجزوں کی توقع کر رہے تھے انھیں پتہ چل گیا ہے کہ کچھ تبدیل نہیں ہوا نہ ہوگابلکہ معاملات مزید بگاڑ کی طرف جا رہے ہیں۔انھیں پتہ ہے کہ کن سیاستدانوں نے توانائی کے شعبہ کو ذاتی مفادات کے لئے تباہ کر دیا ہے۔وزیر اعظم کے بطور وفاقی وزیر بیانات، رینٹل پاور میں انکا کردار، اور فیصلہ کتنے کی صلاحیت سے پیپلز پارٹی اورملک و قوم کو کوئی فائدہ نہیں ہوگا۔اسکے علاوہ امن قائم کرنے، سیاسی جماعتوں اور اہم اداروں سے خوشگوار تعلقات و تعاون کے دعوے بھی سراب ثابت ہوئے ہیں۔ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ عوام اور تاجر برادری مایوسی کی دلدل میں دھنسے ہوئے ہیں اور موجودہ حوصلہ شکن صورتحال میں عوام میںامید جگانے کا واحد راستہ حکومت کی جانب سے الیکشن شیڈول کا اعلان ہے۔
