Textile sector unhurt by floods

Industry capable of timely delivery of foreign orders
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday said floods have not harmed country’s textile sector and foreign buyers need not to worry about delivery of their orders in the stipulated time.
Floods have inflicted heavy losses to the agriculture and livestock sectors while infrastructure has been devastated.
However, the textile sector, concentrated in the urban centres remained largely unharmed. It has ability and capability to accomplish all local and foreign obligations in time, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
This he said while talking to a delegation of leading businessmen headed by Aziz Memon, Chairman and CEO, Karachi Garments City.
Lauding the role of media in highlighting the plight of masses, he said that some foreign buyers got the wrong message that whole country has been ravaged which can harm their interests.
“Some worried foreigners have opted to shift orders to other countries which will hurt Pakistan’s exports,” said Dr. Murtaza Mughal adding that government should do something about it to escape losses.
He said that media should paint correct picture so that local industry, especially textile sector which is the largest urban employment provider and largest foreign exchange earner may not face difficulties.
“World should know that our banking and financial sector, textiles, cement, auto, power, oil and other industries are in shape and capable of conducting operations at full capacity,” he stressed.
At the occasion, Aziz Memon, who also owns a 100 million-dollar-business group said that we can easily meet shortfall of 1.4 million bales through imports. We can pay for it, he said.
If Bangladesh can hold three per cent share in international garments market without producing a single kilogram of cotton, why can’t we, he questioned.

اسلام آباد( ستمبر 01 ) پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا ہے ملک کے کئی اہم صنعتی شعبے سیلاب کی تباہ کاریوں سے محفوظ رہے ہیں۔بیرونی دنیا میںیہ غلط تاثر ہے کہ سارا ملک تباہ ہو گیا ہے جس وجہ سے مغربی ممالک کے گاہک اپنے آرڈر منسوخ کر رہے ہیں۔انھوں نے کہا کہ سیلاب نے زراعت ، لائیو سٹاک اور انفراسٹرکچر کو نقصان پہنچایا ہے مگر ٹیکسٹائل، سیمنٹ، بجلی، آٹو اور دیگر شعبہ جات محفوظ رہے ہیں۔ یہ بات انھوں نے ٹیکسٹائل سٹی کراچی کے سی ای اوعزیز میمن سے بات چیت کرتے ہوئے کی۔ ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ سب سے زیادہ روزگار اور زرمبادلہ کمانے والاٹیکسٹائل کا شعبہ اچھی حالت میں ہے اور اپنے تمام ملکی و غیر ملکی آرڈربر وقت پورا کرنے کی پوری صلاحیت رکھتا ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ میڈیا نے عوام کے مصائب اجاگر کرنے میں اہم کردار ادا کیا ہے مگر اس سے کئی غیر ملکی گاہکوں نے غلط تاثر لیا ہے اور انھوں نے نقصان کے خوف سے اپنے آرڈر دوسرے ممالک کو دینا شروع کر دئیے ہیں جس کا فوری سدباب نہیں کیا گیا تو ملک کو بھاری نقصان ہو گا۔میڈیا کو صنعتی شعبہ کی صلاحیت کو مناسب انداز میں اجاگر کرنے کی ضرورت ہے۔عذیز میمن نے کہا کہ ٹیکسٹائل کا شعبہ14 لاکھ گانٹھ کپاس درامد کر کے کمی پر قابو پا سکتا ہے۔ اس کے لئے درکار ایک ارب ڈالر کوئی بڑی رقم نہیں۔انھوں نے کہا کہ بنگلہ دیش ایک کلو کپاس پیدا کئے بغیر ملبوسات کی عالمی منڈی میں تین فیصد حصہ پر قابض ہو سکتا ہے تو کروڑوں من پکاس پیدا کرنے والا پاکستان بھی ایسا کرنے کا اہل ہے۔
