Slogan of Roti Kapra Aur Makaan has lost appeal
The Pakistan Economy Watch (Pew) on Wednesday said recent hike in the price of petroleum products is a deathblow to masses and economy.
The masses already reeling under rocketing inflation will be further burdened because of this unjustified increase.
The lame excuse given for price hike to counterbalance impact of the rise in oil prices in the international market is not convincing at all, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
The government is too much concerned about following directives of international lenders and raising funds through indirect taxes which proves that it is not serious about tax reforms. The interest of masses is not a consideration at all, he said.
Masses are being deprived of right to live peacefully and comfortably. Majority think that government simply does not care about the people who voted them in power, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal.
The move is to push up overall inflation and the cost of industrial as well as agricultural production will go up. Increased transportation cost will contribute towards poverty, he warned.
Affluent have been allowed to multiply fortunes to contribute towards uneven distribution of wealth. It is extracting around forty per cent profit from sale of petroleum products which is against its slogan of Roti Kapra Aur Makaan (food, clothing, and shelter), he said.
He also criticised opposition for supporting moves which are against the national interests.

اسلام آباد( نومبر ۳) پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ پٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمت میں اضافہ عوام دشمنی کی انتہا ہے۔عوام سے روٹی، کپڑا، مکان اورزندہ رہنے کی امید چھینی جا رہی ہے۔ مہنگائی اور لاقانونیت سے پریشان عوام کو مزید اذیت میں مبتلا کیا جا رہا ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ بین الاقوامی مارکیٹ میں پٹرولیم کی قیمتوں میں اضافہ کا بہانہ عوام کومطمئن نہیں کر سکا ہے۔ ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ حکومت کو صرف اپنی آمدنی بڑھانے کے لئے عوام کا گلہ گھونٹنے اورآئی ایم ایف کے احکامات ماننے سے دلچسپی ہے جبکہ اشرافیہ کو اپنی تجوریاں بھرنے کے کھلی چھوٹ دے دی گئی ہے۔امراءپر براہ راست ٹیکس نہیں عائد کیا جا رہا ہے اور عوام پر روزانہ بلا واسطہ ٹیکس لگا دیا جاتا ہے جو عوامی فلاح کے دعویٰ اورروٹی، کپڑا اور مکان کے نعرہ کے خلاف ہے۔ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ پٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمت میں اضافہ سے صنعتی اور زرعی پیداوار مہنگی اور ٹرانسپورٹ ناممکن ہو جائے گی۔جو حکومت پٹرولیم مصنوعات کی فروخت پر چالیس فیصد منافع کمائے اسے عوام دوست ہرگز نہیں کہا جا سکتا ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ اپوزیشن بھی عوام دشمنی میں حکومت کی مددگار بنی ہوئی ہے۔
