Minerals enough to repay all foreign, local debt
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Friday said Reko Diq mineral resources can guarantee a prosperous future for the people of Pakistan.
The gold and copper available there has a potential to transform our low value added agricultural economy to high value added knowledge economy, it said.
All the related developments and reservations of the stakeholders should be carefully addressed lest it fan new frictions, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
He said that our future is tied to this gift of nature which calls for proper planning and implementation to gain maximum advantage.
Different versions are available regarding size of Reko Diq deposits. However a very conservative estimate suggests that it can fetch enough money to get government rid of $58.4 billion of foreign debt and liabilities as well as all internal obligations,” he said.
Careful handling of this issue can end dependence on international lending institutions providing government opportunity to initiate home-grown reforms without a hostile response, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal.
Supreme Court can order reassessment and a transparent deal under its supervision to do away with prevailing confusion. This will change the fate of majority which is living under miserable conditions and getting poorer with the passage of every day, he said.
He said that the Apex court earlier frustrated the move of Musharraf’s regime to sell Pakistan Steel Mills at throwaway price. Now, it will act to safeguard Pakistan’s precious resources, he hoped.
The history of other mineral projects shouldn’t be allowed to reoccur, Dr. Mughal demanded.

اسلام آباد( نومبر 26 ) پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا ہے ریکو ڈک کا خزانہ ملک و قوم کی قسمت بدل سکتا ہے۔سونے اور تانبے کے اس ذخیرہ کی مدد سے ہم 58.4ارب ڈالر کاساراغیر ملکی اور تمام ملکی قرضہ اتار کر پیروں پر کھڑے ہو سکتے ہیںاور معیشت کو ترقی یافتہ ممالک کی صف میں کھڑا کیا جا سکتا ہے۔ ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ اس سلسلے میں تمام واقعات،معاملات اور شراکت داروں کے تحفظات پر نظر رکھناضروری ہے تاکہ تنازعات اور نقصانات سے بچا جا سکے۔قدرت کے اس تحفے کی ناقدری نہ کی جائے اور معاملات اس طرح سے حل کئے جائیں کہ اس سے مرکز اور صوبوں میں دوری کے بجائے قربت پیدا ہو۔یہ کانیںچند افراد کے بجائے پوری قوم کے بھلے کا سبب بنائیں جائیں۔انھوں نے کہا کہ ریکو ڈک کی معدنیات کی شفاف فروخت سے حکومت آئی ایم ایف سمیت تمام غیر ملکی اداروں سے جان چھڑوا کرکسی مخالفت کے بغیرتعمیر و ترقی کامقامی ایجنڈا نافذ کر سکے گی۔ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ سپریم کورٹ مشرف دور کے دوران سٹیل ملز کو کوڑیوں کے دام فروخت کرنے کی سازش ناکام بنا چکی ہے اور اب ریکوڈک کی معدنیات کی قیمت کا ازسرنو تعین کرنے سمیت اس منصوبہ کے تمام امور اپنی نگرانی میں طے کروانے کا حکم دے سکتی ہے تاکہ پاکستان کے وسائل کی لوٹ مار ختم ہو، اعتراضات و الزامات کا سلسلہ بند ہواور غربت کی چکی میں پسنے والے عوام سکھ کا سانس لے سکیں۔ اس سے قبل بھی معدنیات کی لوٹ مار کی گئی ہے جسکی دوبارہ اجازت نہیں دی جاسکتی۔
