Pakistan should benefit from Chinese tourism spending
Tourist dollars to boost forex reserves, employment
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday said government needs to turn tourism into a key driver for socio-?economic development and poverty reduction.
Pakistan needs and draw advantage from Chinese tourism industry, the world’s fourth largest that ranks third in total outbound travel spending, it said.
China is poised to become world’s number one economic power while western nations and struggling to sustain growth rate.
At present, 25 million Chinese are travelling each year; the number is expected to double by 2020. This means that they would be spending $590 billion per annum, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW).
Government should plan to attract Chinese tourists for the sake of development as they feel very comfortable in Pakistan, he demanded.
Our exemplary relations have done little to attract Chinese tourists, he said adding that Pakistan’s share in Chinese leisure spending remains very low, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal.
Anyone interested in tapping China’s booming tourism sector should first understand their needs and expectations.
Majority of Chinese travellers are reported to be dissatisfied with arrangements in the tourist destinations which is an opportunity for Pakistan’s hospitality sector.
He said that Chinese tourists are current spending around 295 billion dollars which is just the tip of their tourism iceberg.
Attracting tourist dollars can make an important contribution to our foreign exchange earnings, create employment and benefit backward areas.
We should realise that he business volume of tourism has surpassed that of oil exports. It has become one of the major players in ?international commerce therefore it cannot be neglected any more, said Dr. Mughal.

اسلام آباد پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا ہے حکومت سیاحت کے شعبہ کو قومی ترقی کے لئے استعمال کرے کیونکہ اس کے زرمبادلہ کے زخائر اور کاروبار و روزگار میں اضافہ اور دور افتادہ علاقوں میں ترقی کی راہیں کھلیں گی جبکہ غربت میں کمی آئے گی۔چین کی سیاحت کی صنعت دنیا میں چوتھے نمبر پر آچکی ہے جبکہ چینی ملک سے باہر سیاحت پر خرچ کرنے والی تیسری بڑی قوم بن چکی ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ ڈھائی کروڑ چینی سیاحت کے لئے بیرون ملک سفر کے دوران 295ارب ڈالر خرچ کر رہے ہیں اور 2020تک یہ تعداد دگنی ہو جائے گی۔ ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ چین سے مثالی تعلقات کے باوجود چین کی سیاحت میں پاکستان کا حصہ نہ ہونے کے برابر ہے جس کے لئے مناسب منصوبہ بندی کی ضرورت ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ مغربی اقوام چینیوں کی نفسیات سے ناواقف ہیں جس وجہ سے چینی سیاح بھاری اخراجات کے باوجود مطمئن نہیں لوٹتے جو پاکستان کے لئے ایک اچھا موقع ہے۔ ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ سیاحت کا کل حجم تیل کے مجموعی حجم سے بڑھ چکا ہے اور یہ بین الاقوامی تجارت کا اہم جز بن گیا ہے اس لئے اس شعبہ کو مزید نظر انداز نہیں کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
