Resurfacing of extortion gangs to jeopardise peace, economy
Bhatta collection which has remained part of the culture of Karachi since decades has largely been controlled providing some peace of mind to the business community, a leading businessman said.
The practice of visiting businessmen for extortion has been arrested after the action by law enforcing agencies which has improved the overall environment, said Suhail Tabba, Chief Executive of Lucky Energy.
Talking to Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President of the Pakistan Economy Watch, he said that there will be no peace and prosperity in Pakistan unless crimes are curbed in Karachi.
Law and order is the biggest problems which can be only resolved if government has zero tolerance policy towards law-breakings, Suhail Tabba, who is also director of Lucky Cement, underlined.
Chairman APTMA Sindh-Balochistan Region Yasin Siddike said that extortion has become a profitable business in which some elements were making billions at the cost of business community which is already reeling under energy shortages.
The extortionists should not be allowed to reappear on the scene as the state is duty bound to protect the life and property of its citizens in accordance with law, he said.
Siddike said that law and order situation and energy shortages have crippled textile industry which should be seen as a threat to our fragile economy.
At the occasion, Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that it will be difficult for the political parties to purge themselves of criminal elements which is evident from their statements.
Therefore, he said, the administration needs to rediscover its capacity to deal with crimes before launching an effective deweaponisation campaign.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that working of law enforcing agencies need to be improved as their failure push people to buy weapons for personal safety which has added to the problem.
He said that businesses should be encouraged to provide the names the people and parties demanding Bhatta which is dubbed by some as a national security issue.
People involved in ransom, abduction and exaction should be stamped out through indiscriminate action so that people feel comfortable again, he demanded.

کراچی میں کئی دہائیوں سے بلا روک ٹوک جاری بھتہ خوری پر قابو پا لیا گیا ہے اور ضرورت اس بات کی ہے کہ انھیں دوبارہ سر نہ اٹھانے دیا جائے تاکہ شہری سکھ کا سانس لیں اورتاجر و صنعتکار سکون سے کاروبار کر کے ملک و قوم کی ترقی میں اپنا کردار ادا کر سکیں۔یہ بات لکی انرجی کے سی ای او سہیل تابانے پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل سے بات چیت کرتے ہوئے کی۔انھوں نے کہا کہ کراچی میں جرائم پر قابو پائے بغیر پاکستان کی ترقی اور امن نا ممکن ہے۔اس سلسلہ میںسیاسی وابستگیوں کو نظر انداز کرنا پڑے گا۔ سہیل تابا جو لکی سیمنٹ کے ڈائریکٹر بھی ہیں نے کہا کہ امن وقتی نہیں بلکہ مستقل ہونا چائیے ورنہ معاشی سرگرمیاں رفتار پکڑنے سے قبل ہی دوبارہ منجمد ہو جائیں گی۔ انھوں نے کہا کہ امن و امان ہمارا سب سے برا مسئلہ ہے۔اس موقع پر چئیرمین اپٹما سندھ و بلوچستان یاسین صدیق نے کہا کہ بھتہ خوری کے زریعے مختلف لوگ کاروباری برادری سے اربوں روپے وصول کر رہے ہیں جبکہ تاجر پہلے ہی مختلف مسائل کا شکار ہیں اور صنعت کا پیہہ جام ہو چکا ہے جبکہ ٹیکسٹائل کی صنعت تباہی کے دہانے پر پہنچ چکی ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ اگر بھتہ خور دوبارہ منظر عام پر آ گئے تو ملک و قوم کا ناقابل تلافی نقصان ہو گا۔اس موقع پر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ بھتہ خوری ملکی سلامتی کا معاملہ سمجھا جائے۔عوام کو تحفظ فراہم کرنا ریاست کی زمہ داری ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ سیاسی جماعتوں کے منافقانہ طرز عمل سے پتہ چلتا ہے کہ وہ بھی اپنی صفوں سے مجرموں کو نہیں نکالیں گی ۔ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ قانون نافذ کرنے والے اداروں کی ناکامی عوام کو اپنے تحفظ کے لئے ہتھیار خریدنے پر مجبور کرتی ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ کاروباری برادری کی حوصلہ افزائی کی جائے اور انھیں تحفظ دیا جائے تو بھتہ خوروں کے نام منظر عام پر لائے جا سکتے ہیں جس کے بعد انکے خلاف سرسری سماعت کے مقدمات چلا کر قرار واقعی سزائیں دی جائیں۔
