OGRA to take independent decisions to determine a new price of CNG: PEW

ISLAMABAD, November 28: The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) has urged the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to take independent decisions to determine a new price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in order to provide relief to the masses setting aside the pressure of influential CNG association cartel.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, President Pakistan Economy Watch Dr.Murtaza Mughal said that CNG cartel had minted billion of rupees from the consumers and therefore now it was reluctant to sell gas at lower rates.
“State owned gas companies should take over the CNG stations if CNG owners are not ready to sell gas at low rates to provide relief to the consumers,” he said adding that Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) should also take action of CNG cartel that had deprived the consumers of CNG by secret call of strike to CNG station owners to shut down outlets.
He said CNG station owners have been seen to repeatedly ignore the apex court directions to sell gas at low rates which has deprived the customers of any relief.
He, however, said that OGRA should take into account all valid suggestions of the stakeholders to settle on a new price formula of CNG as per the directions of apex court.
“The decision of OGRA to solicit public opinion to determine the prices of CNG for which held public hearing in three major cities of the country including Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi is highly significant,”Dr.Murtaza added.

اسلام آباد()پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے آئل اینڈ گیس ریگولیٹری اتھارٹی(اوگرا) پر زور دیا ہے کہ سی این جی کی نئی قیمتوں کے تعین کے لئے با اثر سی این جی ایسوسی ایشن کے کٹھ جوڑ کے دباو ء میں آئے بغیر آزادانہ فیصلہ کرے تاکہ غریب عوام کو ریلیف فراہم کیا جاسکا ۔بدھ کے روز جاری ایک بیان ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ سی این جی مالکان کے کٹھ جوڑ نے عوام سے اربوں روپے کمائے ہیں لیکن جب سی این جی کی قیمتیں کم کی گئی تو اب وہ سی این جی کی کم قیمت پر فروخت سے انکار کررہے ہیں جو انتہائی افسوس ناک امر ہے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ عوام کو ریلیف فراہم کرنے کیلئے اگر سی این جی مالکان کم قیمت پر گیس فروخت نہیں کرسکتے تو سرکاری گیس کمپنیوں کو سی این جی اسٹیشنز کا انتظام سنبھالنا ہوگاتاکہ کسی بھی صورت غریب عوام ریلیف کے حصول سے محروم نہ ہوسکے۔اکانومی واچ کے صدر نے مسابقتی کمیشن آف پاکستان(سی سی پی) سے مطالبہ کیا کہ سی این جی کے کٹھ جوڑ کے خلاف کارروائی کی جائے جنہوں نے سی این جی اسٹیشنز کی ہڑتال کی خفیہ کال دے رکھی ہے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ سی این جی کی فروخت کم قیمت پر نہ کرنے سے سی این جی مالکان سپریم کورٹ کی احکامات کی خلا ف ورزی کررہے ہیں۔تاہم ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ سی این جی کی نئی قیمتوں کے تعین کیلئے سپر یم کورٹ کے احکامات کی روشنی میں اوگر ا کو تمام فریقین کی قابل عمل تجاویز پر غور کرنا چاہیے۔سی این جی کی قیمتوں کے تعین کیلئے اوگر ا کی جانب سے ملک کے تین بڑے شہروں لاہور ،اسلام آبا د اور کراچی میں عوام کی آراسننے کا فیصلہ خوش آئند ہے۔
