Arrest on charges of tax evasion to damage image of FPCCI, country
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Thursday asked the president FPCCI to immediately resign from his post as he can be arrested any time which will damage the image of FPCCI and the country.
Nab has filed a reference against President FPCCI Zubair Tufail, his son, brother and others for evading tax and the accused can be arrested anytime, it said.
SM Muneer, the leader of United Business Group should not prefer to support his blue-eyed over the interests of the country, said Kashid Ibbal Gondal, SVP, PEW.
In a statement issued here today, he said that the accused have been granted bail from a Sindh High Court bench comprising Justice Junaid Ghaffar and Justice Muhammad Humayoon but NAB is trying to get the bail cancelled.
In a recent meeting of the executive committee of the FPCCI, the leader of Businessman Panel Anjum Nisar and others have also demanded the immediate resignation of Zubair Tufail but their demand was ignored by the leaders of UBG.
The accused during 2010-12 imported PMC (Plastic Moulding Compound) commonly known as ‘plastic dana’ used for manufacturing plastic goods. They sold the consignments in open market and later claimed rebate which was seen as illegal by the authorities.
The NAB authorities investigated the case in detail and roped in the President FPCCI and his family members.
Mr. Gondal asked the government to initiate a detailed inquiry into the matter as the involvement of the representative of the business community of the country in tax theft is very shocking.
