Alternative energy has potential to change fate of Pakistan
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said country could transform deserts into power capitals by using them to generate solar energy.
Solar energy can also turn our badlands into lush green farms ensuring food security for generations.
Twelve EU countries are spending $560 billion to generate solar power while our budgetary allocation for promotion of alternative energy is mere Rs 61.6 million which indicates lack of awareness and interest, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
Government spends around $12 billion annually on energy imports that eats up major portion of export earnings. Tens of billions are being wasted for political considerations but promotion of alternative energy, which is need of the hour, has always taken a backseat.
How can government ensure provision of electricity to over 15000 villages which are without electricity since independence, he questioned.
Solar power is the only option in 7000 villages in Balochistan with 40 and above houses where electricity providers have expressed their inability on remoteness, cost and expected losses etc.
These villagers are part of 37 per cent citizens having no grid connectivity. They deserve better treatment; he said adding that energy crisis could be overcome with the help of alternative energy resources.
Government should enhance visibility, improve confidence of masses as well as investors, offer tax breaks, boost financing and announce direct and indirect subsidies to promote alternative energy.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that the allocation of Alternative Energy Development Board should be corresponding to other energy sector allocations, its strength should be tripled and branch offices should be established in all provinces to secure a future for coming generations.

اسلام آباد( جون 13 ) پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا ہے ہم اپنے صحراﺅں کو شمسی توانائی کے زریعے بجلی گھروں اور لہلہاتے کھیتوں میں بدل سکتے ہیں جس سے بجلی اور آٹے کا بحران ہمیشہ کے لئے ختم ہو جائے گا۔انھوں نے کہا کہ پورپی یونین کے بارہ ممالک شمسی توانائی کے حصول کے لئے 560ارب ڈالر خرچ کر رہے ہیںجبکہ ہمارے پالیسی سازوں نے متبادل توانائی کے لئے بجٹ میں صرف چھ کروڑ روپے رکھے ہیں جس سے انکی عدم دلچسپی اورلا علمی کا پتہ چلتا ہے۔ ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ حکومت توانائی کی درامد پر سالانہ بارہ ارب ڈالر خرچ کرتی ہے جو برامدات کی آمدنی کا بڑا حصہ ضائع کر دیتا ہے ۔ انھوںنے کہا کہ فضولیات پر 500 ارب سے زیادہ لٹائے جا رہے ہیںمگر متبادل توانائی پر کوئی توجہ دی جاتی ہے نہ بجٹ میں ایک روپیہ بھی بڑھایا جاتا ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان میں پندرہ ہزار دیہات بجلی سے محروم ہیںاور صرف بلوچستان میں 40گھروں سے زیادہ پر مشتمل ایسے سات ہزار دیہات ہیںجہاں اخراجات کے خوف سے واپڈا نے بجلی پہنچانے سے معزوری ظاہر کر دی ہے۔37 فیصد عوام جنھیں عام زرائع کے زریعے بجلی نہیں پہنچائی جا سکتی بھی پاکستانی ہیں اور بہتر سلوک کے مستحق ہیں۔ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ حکومت فوری طور ہر متبادل توانائی کے بجٹ پر نظر الثانی کرے، انکا سٹاف بڑھائے، تمام صوبوں میںدفاترقائم کئے جائیں، متبادل توانائی استعمال کرنے والوں کے لئے بل واسطہ اور بلا واسطہ سبسڈی کا اعلان کیا جائے، سرمایہ کاروں کو مراعات دی جائیں اورعوام کا شعور اجاگرکرنے کے لئے اقدامات کوششیں کی جائیں تاکہ آنے والی نسلوں کا مستقبل بہتر بنایا جا سکے۔
