Rising Incidence of Heart Disease A Big Threat To Economy

President Pakistan National Heart Association (Panah) on Saturday said the economic growth over last decade has increased number of heart disease in Pakistan which is a serious threat to economic stability.
Thousands of operations are being conducted every day that can be prevented and billions of rupees could be saved. Cardiovascular problems are increasing poverty, reducing industrial and agricultural productivity, burdening health system and hurting economy which is already under stress.
The monetary burden of heart disease is no longer confined to the affluent, now a man on the street is also suffering from it, said President of Panah Major General (Retd) Masood-ur-Rehman Kiani.
He warned that it is a disaster in making which can be averted through proper planning, prevention, diagnosis and advocacy.
As nation, we have a tendency to face problems with courage but what we lack is attitude to prevent problems, he said while talking to Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President Pakistan Economy Watch.
Gen. Kiani said that heart problems affected more educated and higher socioeconomic groups in past but this is now changing and lower socioeconomic groups are also affected which is a serious development.
Government of Punjab has taken initiative to spread awareness among masses ways and means to avoid heart related diseases at grassroots level and other provinces should follow suit, he said.
Expressing serious concern, Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that we should not allow it to become leading cause of mortality in Pakistan by pushing the benefits of positive change in lifestyle.

اسلام آباد پاکستان نیشنل ہارٹ ایسوسی ایشن(پناہ) کے صدر میجر جنرل (ر) مسعود الرحمٰان کیانی نے کہا ہے کہ امراض قلب ملک کے لئے بڑا معاشی خطرہ ہیںگزشتہ دہائی کی معاشی ترقی نے پاکستان میںامراض قلب کی تعداد میں خاطر خواہ اضافہ کیا ہے۔روزانہ ہزاروں آپریشن کئے جا رہے ہیں جس پر اربوں روپے ضائع ہو رہے ہیں۔اس سے غربت میں اضافہ،پیداوار میں کمی اور ملک کے نظامِ صحت پر غیر ضروری بوجھ پڑ رہا ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ اب یہ خوشحال طبقہ کے ساتھ غریبوں کی بیماری بھی بن گئی ہے جسے ٹالنا بہت آسان ہے۔ میجر جنرل (ر) مسعود الرحمٰان کیانی نے پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل سے بات چیت کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ ایک قوم کی حیثیت سے ہم مصیبت کا بہادری سے مقابلہ تو کر سکتے ہیں مگر اس کے تدارک کے لئے کوششیں نہیں کرتے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ اب تعلیم یافتہ اور متمول طبقہ کے ساتھ غریب عوام بھی بڑی تعداد میں امراض قلب میں مبتلا ہو رہے ہیں جو کہ ملک و قوم کے مستقبل کے لئے بہت خطرناک پیش رفت ہے۔اس موقع پر ڈاکٹر مرمغل نے کہا کہہ ہمیں اس بیماری کو پالستان میںاموات کا بڑا سبب بننے سے روکنا ہوگا جس کے لئے سب سے اہم قدم طرز زندگی میں مثبت تبدیلی ہے۔
