PEW slams FPCCI leadership for ignoring merit

Personal interests overtaking collective welfare in Apex chamber
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday said leadership of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has been ignoring merit which is resulting in complaints and declining image of the Apex chamber.
A group of businessmen has taken over the FPCCI for completion of personal agenda which has created unrest among the business community, it said.
Complaints against FPCCI leaders are piling up in the Commerce Ministry, Directorate General of Trade Organisations, and other forums but to no avail, said Abdullah Tariq, SVP of the Pakistan Economy Watch.
He said that elections procedure in FPCCI should be revisited, there should a code of conduct and uneducated or semi educated people should not be allowed to lead delegations abroad to waste resources and make delegations a laughing-stock.
FPCCI’s policy of sending unelected leaders on foreign tours while ignoring the sitting officials and conspiracies against the other chambers is now being debated openly, he added.
Similarly, appointing convicted or under investigation people against top slots has not served any purpose except strengthening the mafia within, he said.
Abdullah Tariq said that some top FPCCI officials have disregarded collective interest over personal petty gains to an extent where the Apex chamber is made to pay bills for the parties thrown to get business.
He informed that a semi educated person related to pharma business is presently facing ANF investigators in the Ephedrine quota scandal; however, it is amazing that he still enjoys full backing of FPCCI Godfathers.
The PEW official further said that a VP has been arranging membership of his three sons in FPCCI Managing Committee since a decade illegally through a Chamber that only exists on paper.
Many Ambassadors and officials have been ignoring invitations from FPCCI Capital Office where they are forcefully asked for contracts and multiple-entry visas.
He said that traders and industrialists will continue to quit FPCCI to establish their own associations for protection of their rights if FPCCI kept on operating as mafia.

پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے اول نائب صدر عبدللہ طارق نے کہا ہے کہ وفاقی چیمبر میں عہدیداروں کے چنائومیں میرٹ اور ضابطہ اخلاق کی عدم موجودگی کے سبب امیج خراب اور شکایات جنم لے رہی ہیں۔ ان پڑھ رہنما بیرون ملک جانے والے وفود کی سربراہی کر رہے ہیں جس سے وسائل ضائع اور جگ ہنسائی ہو رہی ہے۔ سزایافتہ اور زیر تفیتش افراد کو اہم عہدوں پر تعیناتی سے تاجر برادری میں بے چینی پھیل گئی ہے۔ کئی اعلیٰ عہدیداراجتماعی مفاد کو پس پشت ڈال کرسفیروں اور اعلیٰ حکام کے زریعے ذاتی مفادات کے حصول میںمصروف رہتے ہیں جبکہ انکی جانب سے کی گئی دعوتوں کا بل ایف پی سی سی آئی کو ادا کرنا پڑتا ہے جس سے تاجر برادری کا اعتماد تیزی ڈگمگا رہاہے۔عبدللہ طارق نے مزید کہا کہ فارماسیوٹیکل اور سرجیکل بزنس سے وابستہ ایک ثانوی تعلیم یافتہ نائب صدرکو ایفیڈرین کیس میں ملوث ہونے کے سبب آئے روز اے این ایف میں طلب کیا جاتا ہے اور وزارت خزانہ و ڈی جی ڈی ٹی او کے دفترمیں انکے خلاف شکایات کا انبار لگا ہے مگراسکے باوجود انھیں مرکزی قائدین کا مکمل اعتماد حاصل ہے جو حیران کن ہے۔ ایک دیہی علاقہ کے مقفل چیمبر کی نامزدگی کے زریعے ایک رہنما اور انکے تین صاحبزادے غیر قانونی طور پرگزشتہ ایک دہائی سے مسلسل اوربلا روک ٹوک ایف پی سی سی آئی کی منیجنگ کمیٹی کے ممبر منتخب ہوتے آ رہے ہیں جس پر وفاقی چیمبر خاموش جبکہ سرکاری اہلکار فائلیںاور شکایات دبائے بیٹھے ہیں۔عبدللہ طارق نے کہا کہ کئی اہم ممالک کے سفیر ٹھیکوں ، ویزوں اوردیگر مطالبوں سے اس قدر عاجز آ گئے ہیں کہ انھوں نے ایف پی سی سی آئی کے کیپیٹل آفس کا رخ کرنا ہی چھوڑ دیا ہے۔ منتخب عہدیداروں کے ہوتے ہوئے سابق عہدیداروںکو اہم ممالک کے دوروں پر بھجوانے کی پالیسی پر بھی اب کھل کر اعتراضات کئے جا رہے ہیں۔اگر ایف پی سی سی آئی کو مافیا کی طرح چلایا جاتا رہااور عوام کے سرمائے پرذاتی ایجنڈا کی آبیاری جاری رہی تومایوسی وبداعتمادی مزید بڑھے گی اورتاجر وںو صنعتکاروں میں اپنے حقوق کے تحفظ لئے تنظیمیں بنانے کا رجحان مزیدفروغ پائے گا۔
