Nothing well on the economic front
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said the economic managers are the biggest hindrance in Pakistan’s road to economic recovery.
Economic team conveniently blame former government and international developments for all the economic ills while absolving themselves of all the responsibilities, it said.
The team has failed to initiate any policy reforms; it continued to rely on borrowing which resulted in serious economic problems, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
The finance team has failed all the tests since four years; they are accused of fudging figures, protecting rich and making budgets based on assumptions, he added.
He said that double-digit inflation, high public debt and looming balance of payments crisis prove that economic team prefers politics to reforms.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that false hopes and empty promises have become hallmark of the failed government, all the good news from the economic front are mere propaganda.
Current coalition is aware that the economic situation is very precarious and only difficult decisions can help country but they are avoiding steps in the right direction for the sake of popularity, he added.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that failure of the government to tackle power outages, terrorism and deteriorating law and order situation and choices of the politicians to avoid tough measures are adding to the woes of a crippled economy.
Rulers have no intention to sell or restructure loss-making public sector enterprises, bring rural elite in the tax net, boost export, restructure the industrial base or undertake any fundamental economic reforms.
Pakistan’s economy cannot sustain in absence of slim and transparent central and provincial governments with high standards of austerity, accountability and a just taxation system, said Dr. Mughal.

پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا ہے کہ موجودہ حکومت کے اکنامک منیجر ملک کی اقتصادی بحالی کے راستہ میں بنیادی رکاوٹ ہیں۔ اقتصادی ٹیم اپنی ناکامیوں چھپانے کے لئے تمام ملبہ سابقہ حکومت اور بین الاقوامی حالات پر ڈال کر خود تمام ذمہ داریوں سے مستثنیٰ ہو جاتی ہے۔یہ ٹیم اصلاحات روشناس کروانے میں ناکام رہی ہے اور اسی نے حکومت کو مقامی و بیرونی زرائع سے قرضے لینے کے راستہ پر ڈالا ہے جس سے معیشت کا بیڑا غرق ہو گیا ہے۔ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ سنگین اقتصادی مسائل کے نتیجے میں ملک تباہ ہو رہا ہے مگر حکمران ابھی تک سخت فیصلے کر کے عوام کو ناراض نہیں کرنا چاہتے جس سے انکی ناکامیوں کا پتہ چلتا ہے۔
ثانوی قابلیت کی حامل معاشی ٹیم اعداد و شمارمیں ہیر پھیر، مفروضات پر مبنی بجٹ بنانا، امراء کے تحفظ اور ٹیکس نظام کی ناکامی کا سبب ہے جس سے افراط رزاور قرضے ناقابل یقین حد تک پہنچ گئے ہیں۔ اقتصادی ٹیم بدستور سیاستدانوں کے اشاروں پر ناچ رہی ہے اور سیاست کی خاطر اصلاحات کو قربان کر رہی ہے۔ ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ عوام کو جھوٹی امیدوں، کھوکھلے وعدوںاور پروپیگنڈا سے بہلانا ناممکن ہے۔ اقتصادی صورتحال نازک ہے اور صرف مشکل فیصلے ملک کی مدد کر سکتے ہیں لیکن مقبولیت کی خاطر درست سمت میں اقدامات سے گریز کیا جا رہا ہے۔ بجلی کی بندش، دہشت گردی اور امن وامان کی بگڑتی صورتحال،دیہی اشرافیہ ٹیکس نیٹ میں لانے، برآمد بڑھانے، صنعتی بنیادکی تشکیل نو یا کسی بھی بنیادی اقتصادی اصلاحات نہیں کی جا رہی ہیں۔
