Load shedding one of the biggest threats to democracy
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Saturday said traders should not frustrate government’s ongoing energy conservation drive.
Closing down shops at 8pm is one of the key measures of the new load management formula without which whole plan would fail adding to miseries of the masses.
“Authorities seem to have adopting lax attitude as trading community across country has been openly defying energy-saving orders in their own interest,” said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
He said that the refusal of business community to abide by the decision could encourage others to follow the suit that would result in total failure of the move.
Lack of collective thinking, missing business ethics, and unnecessary focus on personal gains will lead us nowhere, he warned.
“Masses brought government to the power therefore rulers should keep interest of commoners supreme,” Mughal said adding that the issue of load shedding must be tackled delicately as it has emerged as one of the biggest threat to the democracy.
Once again, government’s ability to enforce its directives has been put to test. Government cannot afford to lose it. Now the rulers cannot continue to blame past government for all ills, as masses are not ready to buy such ideas.
Traders, up in arms, need to understand benefits of little sacrifice for the collective good as their resistance will create law and order issues, hike uncertainty, hurt industrial production, increase unemployment and bring down export volume.
Why someone allows them to generate profits on the cost of masses, he asked?
Urban consumers must be educated to change their habit of visiting commercial areas after evening.
Some other influential groups are also pressing government unnecessarily without considering interests of the whole population; government needs to take a firm stand and demonstrate courage, said Dr. Mughal.

اسلام آباد(اپریل 24) پاکستان اکانومی واچ کے صدر ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا ہے تاجراپنے تھوڑے سے منافع کے لئے پوری قوم کو مصیبت میں مبتلا نہ کریں۔انھیںصرف اپنے گروہی مفادات کے بجائے پوری قوم کے بارے میں سوچنا چائیے ۔انکی معمولی قربانی سے سولہ کروڑ عوام کو فائدہ ہوگا۔ انھوں نے کہا کہ حکومت کی جانب سے نرم رویہ دیگر شعبوں کو بھی مراہمت پر آمادہ کر سکتا ہے جس سے بجلی بچانے کے سارے منصوبے پر پانی پھر جائے گا۔ڈاکٹر مغل نے کہا کہ تاجر کاروباری اور سماجی اخلاقیات کا جنازہ نہ نکالیںاور حکومت بھی عوام کے مفادات کا سوچے جس نے انھیں ووٹ دے کر اقتدار کی مسند پر بٹھایا ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ لوڈ شیڈنگ جمہوریت کے لئے سب سے بڑا خطرہ بن گئی ہے کیونکہ عوام اب مشرف کو اس کا زمہ دار ماننے کو تیار نہیں۔ تاجروں کی تحریک کا نتیجہ بد امنی وبے روزگاری میں اضافہ اور صنعتی پیداوار اور برامدات میں کمی کی صورت میں نکلے گا جو ملک و قوم کا بڑا نقصان ہو گا۔ڈاکٹر مرتضیٰ مغل نے کہا کہ اسلام آباد کی ہر سٹیل مل ایک سیکٹر کے برابر بجلی کھاتی ہے۔ ان کارخانہ داروں کو عوام کی قیمت پر منافع کمانے کی اجازت دینا عوام دشمنی ہے۔انھوں نے کہا کہ تاجروں کو عوام کے مصائب کا سوچنا ہوگا، شہری صارفین کو رات گئے بازاروں کا رخ کرنے کی عادت تبدیل کرنی ہو گی اور حکومت کو اس معاملہ پر ثابت قدم رہنا ہو گا ورنہ صورتحال بہت خراب ہو سکتی ہے۔
