Absence of some honest ministers in new Cabinet not to change perception
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday welcomed the resignation of the Cabinet to form a smaller one saying it is a good step to reduce expanses of the government.
However, majority view the development with scepticism that demands for a result-oriented decision that was long due, it said.
Government lacking any charismatic leadership should try to bring fundamental change as opting for window dressing will hurt its standing, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.Masses should get some relief otherwise, efforts of the government will meet failure triggering mass frustration, he warned.
Crisis of good governance is not limited to the size of the overloaded Cabinet but it has plagued all the key sectors calling for sweeping reforms to tackle financial crunch, he said.
People need political reforms that cause things to change; continuation of political tyranny with change of faces will not satisfy anyone as masses have become quick to draw conclusions, he added.
Changing portfolios will only work when radical transformation in attitude is realised at the highest political level for the sake of survival, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal.
Large Cabinets having leaders that take politics as profitable endeavour and buy juicy ministries can only do great disservice to ruling party and society.
Resignation of the Cabinet will only work when it is aimed at betterment and improvement towards alleviating widespread poverty, he said.
The decision to choose new Cabinet should not be unilateral; others should also be involved in the process. The new Cabinet at least have few honest ministers with a clear-minded approach to serve masses otherwise efforts to change perception will go in vain.
In the current set of circumstances only media and judiciary can play a greater role in changing the way of thinking of the influential intended to end economic deprivation, said Dr. Mughal.
