Forcing honest taxpayers to become evaders’ part of agenda
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has become one of the biggest hurdles in increasing the tax net to raise funds.
The Apex tax collecting institutions have repeatedly failed the test of transparency which has resulted in public mistrust and disbelief on the part of international lending institutions.
Masses have developed a defence mechanism against the accesses of tax officials; they are ready to pay bribes but not willing to pay taxes, say Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
He said that why someone should pay part of his hard earned money to FBR that would not be used for national development. Instead, it will be used for personal welfare or support the princely living of rulers.

To meet the future challenges and demand, Fauji Cement Company Limited (FCCL) has installed country’s biggest single unit plant to enhance production capacity by almost 200 per cent.
FFCL, the No.1 company by capacity utilization of 90.67 per cent against an overall average of 71.65, use to produce 3885 Metric Tonnes (MT) of cement per day but now it is producing 11560 MT.

Rulers continue to punish masses for their mismanagement, corruption
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Friday said government has hit masses hard with CNG bomb on the eve of new financial year.
Government is to punish the masses for their inefficiency, mismanagement and corruption by hike in the domestic and commercial gas tariff soon, it said.
The decision to keep CNG filling stations closed for two days in Sindh and for three days in Punjab is a politically motivated move aimed at settling score with opposition and gaining cheap popularity which will hurt harmony between provinces, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
He said that government continue to inflict punishment on masses for choosing democracy. Poor will continue to pay the price for blunders by the rulers and mismanagement of natural resources, he added.

Private concerns should be entrusted instead of Govt officials
Provision of second-rate, fake medicines same as killing humanity
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday suggested improvements in the provision of medicine to the needy through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM).
Provision of medical assistance to underprivileged should not be left to the staff of government-owned hospitals; it should be done through well-reputed private parties and medical stores, it said.
Medicines should be stamped and their packing and labels should be marked before delivery to discourage resale and forgery, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
Presently, he said, needy contacts PBM about their requirement through social welfare staff of the hospitals.

Dr. Mughal asks Supreme Court to take action
Senator, Haji Ghulam Ali President, Federation of Pakistan, Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday expressed concern over disproportionate printing of currency notes by the government to meet expanses.
He said that printing around two billion rupees would keep economy under dark clouds hurting society and businesses.
“There should be some limits to printing notes otherwise Pakistani currency will continue to lose value,” he demanded.
Talking to Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President of the Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW), Ghulam Ali said that Pakistan import everything including vegetable; therefore, imports would continue to become costly if devaluation is not arrested through proper measures.
He said that 1667 industries have been closed in country hurting millions while thousands of business are at the verge but the authorities prefer to remain unresponsive.

The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Tuesday said that Supreme Court has infused confidence and hope in the shaken masses by ordering a probe against Director General Federal Investigations Agency (FIA) Waseem Ahmed.
The development will help restore trust in the system among ordinary masses; majority believe judiciary can bring fundamental changes aimed at positive outcome, it said.

Abuse of freight subsidy benefiting politicians, officials and OMCs
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said an influential mafia has embezzled billions by misusing petroleum freight subsidy.
The inland shipment subsidy is offered to ensure uninterrupted supply and keep prices of the petroleum products stable in the remote areas but a gang is misusing it since a decade, it said.
